Clear metrics don’t drive performance if teams aren’t aligned around them.

The challenge:

A plant had already introduced shop floor KPIs aligned to plant goals and elements

of standard work. What was missing was an effective way for shifts and

departments to communicate consistently. Without that, information wasn’t flowing

and issues were being solved too late.

Here’s what we did:

  • Reviewed how shift and department communication actually worked day to day.
  • Introduced Tier 1 meetings with standard agendas tailored to each department.
  • Moved meetings onto the shop floor so discussions happened at the point of work.

The result?

Better information flow, clearer ownership, and stronger understanding across departments without added oversight.

Teams owned their meetings and actions, which preserved trust and autonomy.

Good meetings aren’t about more structure. They’re about the right structure.
