Consistency Builds Trust Between Shifts
Shift handovers often go wrong not because of poorly skilled people but because of vague standards.
One team leaves it clean, the next arrives to a mess. Then frustration grows.
Trust between crews begins to erode and productivity starts to suffer.
Consistency is what transforms this. When standards are clear and upheld, everything becomes easier to improve.
Here is how I reinforce consistency across shifts:
- Standardise definitions of done – Everyone knows when a task is truly complete, not just half-finished.
- Audit shift reports for clarity and value – They must be short, accurate and useful. Not just a tick-box.
- Assign handover responsibilities clearly – There is always one owner for handover, not a vague group task.
- Celebrate seamless transitions – Recognise when it works well. This builds pride and trust.
